Staff at the leading Wakefield business pick up two awards for their outstanding contributions.
Conservatory Outlet, the UK’s leading manufacturer of windows, doors and living spaces, celebrated two victories at the West Yorkshire Apprentice Awards.
Operations Manager Michelle Wootton was named the region’s Mentor of the Year. Nikki Lewis, who recently completed her Level 6 Marketing Manager apprenticeship, received a special commendation for her work.
Founded by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the awards ceremony recognises apprenticeships, mentors and businesses within West Yorkshire that excel at delivering and supporting vocational education through work.
The company’s double success further cements Conservatory Outlet as a leading advocate of apprentices and training in the region and the wider fenestration and manufacturing sectors.
Up against tough competition from across West Yorkshire, Michelle Wootton was crowned Mentor of the Year due to her involvement with Conservatory Outlet’s in-house apprenticeship programme.
“I’m thrilled!” begins Michelle. “This has come as such a surprise. I told the team I was a winner whatever happens due to what we’ve done together, but this is something special.”
As a former apprentice, Michelle understands the positive impact that mentors have on those undertaking apprenticeships.
She concludes: “I started as an apprentice over 20 years ago, and to be recognised as West Yorkshire’s Mentor of the Year is an incredibly proud moment for me. Apprenticeships are a fantastic option for people who want to earn and learn. It doesn’t matter if you’re leaving school and want to build experience, change careers or further build your skillset – there’s an apprenticeship out there for everyone.”
“It’s so rewarding working for Conservatory Outlet, a company that supports and promotes apprenticeships.”
Since joining Conservatory Outlet, Michelle has risen to the position of Operations Manager, overseeing the day-to-day functions of the manufacturer’s Order Processing and Customer Service divisions.
Michelle also works closely with HR and other key stakeholders to develop the company’s apprenticeship programme. She provides continuous training and development plans for many of the company’s sector-specific apprenticeships, mentoring many school leavers as they embark on their professional careers.
Congratulating Michelle on her success, Mick Giscombe, Conservatory Outlet’s Managing Director, said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Michelle. She has an essential role within the company and plays an active role in developing our apprentices.
“Being named Mentor of the Year is a fantastic achievement that speaks volumes about her passion for supporting those around her, especially our office-based apprenticeships.”
Nikki Lewis walked away from the event with a special commendation as a Degree Level Apprentice.
She recently completed her apprenticeship, gaining a distinction, and has played a crucial role in expanding Conservatory Outlet’s marketing capabilities, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of the home improvement sector.
Nikki said about her award: “I found my apprenticeship immensely beneficial for both myself and the company. The course allowed me to enhance my knowledge and skills.
“I’m delighted to have been recognised by the judging panel; I’m really proud to have been given a special award.
“Apprenticeships are for people of all ages and abilities. I’ve found the course extremely fulfilling, and I’d recommend anybody wanting to progress to seriously consider one.”
Mick Giscombe added: “Nikki’s progression at Conservatory Outlet has been phenomenal. She’s worked extremely hard, managing her studies and role side by side. To see her singled out for praise is extremely rewarding and again showcases the exceptional talent that forms the backbone of Conservatory Outlet.”
